The Calla Lilly is a South African native and one of the oldest flowers known to man.
The Romans associated the flower with the winter solstice. The ancient Jews considered the lily a sacred flower. In Christian iconography, the flower represents purity and chastity; it is also the symbol of resurrection.
The name Calla stands for beauty in Greek and the majestic bride in Hebrew.
This painting was inspired by Zen style. My paintings in this series feature a white background and images that emerge and morph into it. "Form is emptiness, emptiness is form. Form is not other than emptiness; emptiness is not other than form." (The Heart Sutra)
