Descendants of the same origin, the three world religions – Judaism,
Christianity and Islam consider Jerusalem a holy city. In this painting, the
three religions are represented by the “Domes of Faith” in the Old City of
Jerusalem: the Hurva Synagogue, the Dome of the Rock and the Church of
the Holy Sepulchre. In the artist’s vision, they are united in one hand and
painted as evolving from one source and rising under one dome of the sky.
The Hamsa Hand (the Hand of Miriam or the Hand of Fatima) is an ancient
Middle-Eastern talisman that is believed to predate modern religions. It has
become a popular good-luck talisman worldwide. It is a sacred and
protective symbol in various cultures; it is also a symbol of blessing, peace,
happiness and good fortune. The Hamsa Hand indicates the similarities of
the origins and cultures of the Middle East.
