The Calla Lilly is a South African native and one of the oldest flowers known to man.
The Romans associated the flower with the winter solstice. The ancient Jews considered the lily a sacred flower. In Christian iconography, the flower represents purity and chastity; it is also the symbol of resurrection.
The name Calla stands for beauty in Greek and the majestic bride in Hebrew.

The unique hand-painted frame is painted in the sgraffito technique.

Egg tempera and 23 k gold leaf on wood, 12x14.5 inch framed. Wired and ready to hang.
